Most pre-packaged tablet medications in the UK come in blister packs. Regrettably, these blister packs pose challenges for recycling, and the majority find their way into regular waste bins, eventually reaching landfills. These packets typically contain multiple pill compartments and are crafted from thermoformed plastic with an aluminium foil backing.
In spite of many disappointments no local opportunities to recycle have been found. However a company called MyRefactory in Yorkshire has developed a means to recycle and reuse blister packs. This involves customers purchasing a box which they fill with blister packs this is then collected by the company and taken for recycling which is included in the cost. Unfortunately this is not cheap but because our village is very keen not to add to landfill three groups have kindly sponsored 13 boxes. Our local Councillor Mike Jones, the Parish Council and Transition Tattenhall. Hopefully this will cover collections for the best part of a year and we can demonstrate to CWAC how many blister packs are being used in our small village which would otherwise go into landfill.
Collecting boxes have been placed for general use in the Post Office (behind the counter), Church Bank Homecare Ltd on Church Bank , Tattenhall Library and two other sites for specific residents. These will be emptied regularly and the full boxes sent for recycling.
All unused tablets MUST have been removed.
