An evening of Song, Aria and Cabaret at the Barbour.
On a cold dark November evening, Tattenhall Music Society was treated to a delightful and uplifting evening of "Song, Aria and Cabaret", performed to the highest standard by the Royal Northern College of Music's finest singers.
The musicians, sopranos Charlotte Trepess and Kimberley Raw, baritone David McCaffrey, accompanied by the RNCM's Staff Pianist and Coach Jonathan Fisher, were performing before an audience of more than 100 people at the Barbour Institute who were able to enjoy the evening in a relaxed "cafe style" with a glass of wine.
The concert opened with pieces by Mozart and covered a range of music from Strauss and Puccini to George Gershwin and Rodgers & Hammerstein to name just a few of the composers covered and as the title suggests, a section of the evening covered music from Cabaret.
By way of an encore and to reflect Remembrance Sunday, they brought the evening to a close with Ivor Novello's We'll Gather Lilacs.
It is inaccurate to have used the word "sang" throughout this review. Charlotte, Kimberley and David did not just sing, they "performed", and clearly have very bright futures ahead of them. They themselves will be the first to acknowledge the hard work and brilliance of Jonathan Fisher, the pianist and their accompanist for the evening.

The next TMS concert will be on Sunday 14 January 2018 at St Alban's Church, Tattenhall, when we welcome the Chameleon Wind Quintet. They formed after meeting at RNCM and they play flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon. They have a special ability to "double" and "triple" whereby they can exchange instruments – often within the same piece. A concert not to be missed!
All this for just £8 a ticket for members, and £10 for non-members.
