U3A Walk

Our next short walk on Thursday 13 September is being led by David and Lynda Bish who offered to step in at short notice. Thanks to them for arranging to do this for us.

We have recced a walk starting at The Plough Inn near Whitegate which is just under 5 miles but could be shortened if necessary.

The Plough Inn staff were very helpful and the outside of the Inn is a blaze of colourful flowers. Meals are reasonably priced and good value, we certainly enjoyed ours today, and they are happy if people only want a tea, coffee or Hot chocolate rather than a snack.

The walk starts from The Plough Inn, Beauty Bank, Whitegate, Cheshire CW8 2BP which is approximately 13 miles from Tattenhall, the journey via A49 and A54 takes about 25 minutes. On reaching Salterswall Roundabout shortly before Winsford on the A54, take the 1st exit onto Chester Lane/B5074, then Turn left onto Whitegate Rd, Continue onto Dalefords Lane, turn right onto Beauty Bank, the Plough Inn is on the left.
We suggest meeting at Alison's at 09.30 or The Plough at 10.00. The Inn will be open on arrival, we have provisionally booked a table for lunch and we have been asked to pre-order snacks or meals before we start our walk.
The Plough lunch menu which is on their website includes a variety of sandwiches, baguettes, paninis and light bites at about £6.75.
The walk is just under 5 miles through fields, woods, lanes and across a golf course, although for those who would find that a bit too far, there is an option to miss an approximate 1mile loop which passes through a wooded area. There are three stiles, a number of kissing gates and footbridges over streams. The paths are mainly firm but could be muddy in places if there is much rain. One field held two horses who ignored us, another had some calves behind an electrified fence and we saw one sign which read "Bull in field", however as all of the gates were open, we assume he had escaped!
