Next on the Schedule of our U3A Walks – Thursday 23 February!

This 7 mile walk is in Llangollen, with several steep inclines, including up to Castel Dinas Bran, a few stiles, some places that could be slippy if wet or icy, but only sheep in the fields.

We will park at the large Horseshoe Falls Car Park, which is pay and display and costs £3 but usefully has toilets!

The walk passes Valle Crus Abbey remains and, via the Clwydian Way, to Dinas Bran.

We then drop down to the canal where we can have lunch at the Wharf Cafe (or there are benches for a picnic if preferred).

From there back along the canal to the end at the Horseshoe Falls and Llantysilio Church where there may still be snowdrops in full bloom (image by Mat Price, Flickr).

To get to the start, take the A483 Wrexham Bypass, and leave at the Llangollen turning, Junction 1 on the A539. Drive straight through Llangollen, ignoring the bridge turning left into the town centre. After passing the International Pavilion and the motor museum, take the left turn to Llantysilio and follow the brown signs for the Horseshoe Falls Car Park (not the Horseshoe Pass); the car park is about 30 miles from Tattenhall.

We plan to leave the car park behind Alison's at 9.15am or meet at the Horseshoe Falls Car Park at 10.15am.

As usual, it is important that everyone contacts me to let me know if you are coming since bad weather can mean a change of plans – jillhug@ hotmail.co.uk or 01829 770634.

Remember, you don't have to be a U3A member to join us for a couple of trial walks but after that, we do ask you to join the group.

We look forward to seeing you and let's hope for terrific weather.
