The beautiful village of Tattenhall in Cheshire
U3A: July 2016
July's U3A monthly talk which will take place on Thursday 21 July from 2pm, at the Barbour Institute and which is entitled 'Burwardsley Remembers', is not only of local interest but is a subject which is highly topical in that July 1st witnessed the joint Anglo-French Centenary Commemoration of the Battle of the Somme at Thiepval.
In the context of this turning point of the Great War, Terri Hull will share her latest information in relation to the men of Burwardsley who died in 'the war to end all wars'.
Terri, an ex Head of History at a local high school, is at the forefront of an initiative to encourage communities to engage with their past at a local level throughout the period 2014-18.
Currently, this Sandstone Ridge village has neither a War Memorial, nor a Roll of Honour.
The project outcome will see the installation of an accurate Roll of Honour dedicated to the men of Burwardsley and housed within the Church of St John the Divine.
We always welcome potential new members, so do come along and find out more about your local U3A and this fascinating subject.
