In this series, we spend 10 minutes talking to someone who lives or works in Tattenhall and share our findings with you.
Today, we're talking to Parish Councillor Doug Haynes

Where are you from?
I was born in a village called Haslington, Nr Crewe. Married a Rachel Dodd from Tattenhall in 1963 and farmed at Lower Rock Farm, Beeston, from where I retired in 1997 and retired to Walnut Tree House, Wood Lane Tattenhall.
How long have you lived in Tattenhall?
1997 to now.
What do you like about the village?
Tattenhall is a complete village with a range of shops to meet most of our needs with a very active church, Parish Council, and all village facilities
What would you most like to improve in the village?
To retain a good range of shops and improve available parking for residents and visitors to the village
Have you found any positive aspects of the Covid-19 restrictions?
Residents help each other in this terrible time and the shops such as Morton's will deliver to residents as required, Many residents help their neighbours
Who do you most admire, dead or alive, and why?
My interest is historical and as such I researched Cheshire's history, Randle de Blunderville of 800 years ago as Earl of Chester stands out
You've volunteered to give up a lot of your time to be a Parish Councillor. What was the trigger for volunteering for this role?
I originally in 1964 became a member of Beeston Parish Council, and was its voluntary Clerk for many years.
I became a member of Tattenhall P.C and still am.
I became a member of Tarvin R.D.C in 1972. I became a member of Chester City Council in 1974.
I was Mayor of that Council in 1987/1988. (I was mayor in its 750th year of such Mayors, and Admiral of the Dee in that role). I was granted a B.E.M for my work over all those years. All much appreciated. I was granted the honour of HONORARY FREEMAN and HONORARY ALDERMAN while a member of such Council

What have you enjoyed most in this role?
I was very much involved with the history of the village and helped with much of the history publications that we produced as a Parish Council. I enjoyed my work in the creation of our village horse.
I did the research into our Tattenhall village sign

Who would you invite to a dinner party or a drink in the pub?
I do not think of anyone
If you could time travel, where would you go and when?
I do think that in the main we live at a very good time. (Apart from Coronovirus)
Most of us have really not gone short of much. Education at all levels, Living in England we are very lucky, Retirement pensions are of our age. (Going back in time would be worse.)

Thank you for your time, Doug
