Inspired Villages, a leading developer and operator of later living communities across the UK, has concluded its highly successful 'Inspired 7,500 Mile Challenge' 2024. This week-long cycling event, held from April 7th to 13th, aimed to raise funds for ProstAid UK and raise awareness for early detection of prostate cancer.

Colleagues, residents, and friends of Inspired Villages joined forces to embark on a remarkable journey spanning an incredible 9,470 miles collectively, exceeding the target of 7,500 miles. The event garnered tremendous support, with participants raising over £15,000 for ProstAid UK.

The event saw Inspired Villages CEO, Jamie Bunce and colleagues, cycle over 600 miles in 6 days, from the southernmost village in Exeter, to the most northern village, Gifford Lea in Tattenhall, near Chester.

Meanwhile, residents, colleagues, and friends of Inspired made up the remaining miles on static bikes, set up at each village.

Speaking about the event, Jamie Bunce, CEO of Inspired Villages shared: "The whole challenge was inspired by my close friend, Justin Butlin, who sadly lost his battle with prostate cancer on February 27th, 2024. At just 53, it's devastating for his family and all those close to him.

"Justin was hugely passionate about raising awareness of the disease, and I'm honoured to be riding in his memory. He was so supportive of the challenge, and I know I speak for myself and all those taking part that we're humbled to support Justin's legacy and to raise awareness of this all-too-common disease which is robbing families of fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons the world over.

"Since launching the challenge earlier this year, I've been blown away by the number of people getting in touch to pledge their support and get involved. We have a colleague who walked almost 60 miles from a village in Warwickshire to our Nottingham-based head office. There's also a group of colleagues who ran 16 miles -- more than a half marathon each and so much more. It's been an inspiring demonstration that when we come together with a shared purpose, amazing things can be achieved."

The concerning reality is that 1 in 8 men will develop prostate cancer. For black men, this statistic rises to 1 in 4. While prostate cancer may not always be life-threatening, early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment.
