Ian Pittaway: medieval harps, voice, gittern, lute, koboz
The Magic of Medieval Music
CHESTER, Saturday, 22nd July 2017, 7.30pm
Church of St. John the Baptist, Vicar's Lane/Little St. John Street, Chester, CH1 1SN
Enter the wonderful world of medieval music in the company of Ian Pittaway, historical music performer on stage and TV (The Night Watch, The White Princess, Horrible Histories), with songs, tunes and stories from the 12th to the 15th centuries. Hear a Spanish song about a miraculous pork chop; 13th century English songs about the weather (what else?); a Christmas hit for Mike Oldfield by a medieval monk who wore brass tacks in his underpants; a Canterbury Tales tune; medieval dances; the crossover between folk music and medieval music; and much more, all sung and played on the everyday instruments of the middle ages: harp, bray harp, gittern, lute and koboz. With songs, tunes, stories, some joining-in choruses and an opportunity to see medieval musical instruments close-up, this is an evening for peasants or gentry of any age, suitable for the curious novice and medieval initiates alike.
