Fairy Story at Royal Ascot

Congratulations to our local Manor House Stables for saddling Arthur Kitt to win the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A victory at Royal Ascot is cause for celebration in any circumstances but this one is extra special. The dam of Arthur Kitt, Ceiling Kitty, who herself won at Royal Ascot in 2012, was also trained by Tom Dascombe, ridden by Richard Kingscote and owned by Andrew Black, the joint founder of Manor House stables with Michael Owen. Sadly the birth of Arthur Kitt had tragic consequences for Ceiling Kitty who died during the birthing process. Miraculously Arthur Kitt survived despite having to be resuscitated six times at the time.

All this took place at Andrew Black's stud, so he not only lost his beloved broodmare, he also nearly lost her final foal. (Her previous two offspring have also won for the stable). Nothing typifies the ups and downs of thoroughbred horse racing more than this "fairy story". Hope springs eternal so best wishes to Andrew, Tom and the team for further future success with Arthur Kitt.
