Our eco warriors have completed a range of autumn tasks – the prolonged dry weather has been a terrific help!
The heavy duty oak woodland bench which was purchased with partial grant support from Tattenhall Parish Council last year, is now fully installed within Memorial Wood (woodland comprising some 700 trees which was planted by members and supporters of TWiG). The bench which was simply too heavy to move without the help of the Bolesworth Estate, has been 'tractored' into position and can be found adjacent to Public Footpath FP2. With secure ground anchorage complete, the bench allows residents and visitors alike to enjoy the newly created area of woodland and the wildflower glades which are resplendent at certain times of the year.
Readers may also have noticed the planting of 5 cell-grown oak trees with accompanying purpose-built wooden tree cages. These have also been positioned along Public Footpath FP2. The cages will protect the trees from grazing sheep. An avenue of oaks for the future!
Importantly too, members of TWiG have cut the meadows in both Memorial and Jubilee Woods which will allow these areas to replenish next year and will prevent invasive brambles taking over!
And finally, TWiG members have also been busy at areas they manage on the disused railway line; clearing the area to provide the perfect habitat for Southern Marsh Orchids to continue to flourish next year.
Well done everyone and thanks to all stakeholders, including Bolesworth Estate and Robin Langford, Tenant Farmer. Click on each image to enlarge.
