On Tuesday 27th April our MP, Aphra Brandreth came to Tattenhall to discover more about our Blister Pack Recycling project. She was very interested to learn more about the issues with Blister packs which are currently not recyclable unless they are sent to one of two companies about to complete this operation. We had already selected ReFactory because they are a British company and not only recycle the material but create new items when this has been achieved.

As usual our villagers have supported this initiative and Aphra was amazed at the quantities of blister packs that filled the first box load collected over a period of about a month.

"Protecting our local environment is one of my top priorities and we should be looking at new and innovative ways to make sure we carry out our everyday household habits in a much greener way.

I am grateful to Yvonne and Mike for championing this local project and I would encourage the community in Tattenhall to support it if they can.

I am writing to Cheshire West and Chester Council to urge them to get on board," commented Aphra.

The boxes will be collected by ReFactory and taken to the factory for recycling. Unfortunately it is an expensive process but the project is being supported by the Parish Council, our local Councillor Mike Jones and Transition Tattenhall.

However, we are a small village and if we are producing this quantity of blister packs how many are the whole country sending to landfill?

If you are not already recycling your blister packs please help our campaign. Public collecting boxes are placed in the Post Office, the Care agency on Church Bank and the Library, private boxes are placed at Flacca Court and Tattenhall Homecare.

After a year we will take the result to Cheshire West and Chester Council with the support of our local Councillor and MP in the hope the Council will no longer put blister packs into landfill and the plastic and more importantly the aluminium will be recycled.
