The 'Generation Game' comes to Tattenhall

Nice one! Parent plus child, or child plus grandparent combinations are invited to compete against each other in the Annual Show taking place on Sunday 3rd September at the Barbour Institute. Specifically, Class 57 of the show, in the Cookery Section, is hoping that the generations will combine their cup cakes (4 each) to enter their own generation game. No age restrictions, just the ability to make your own cupcakes. Maybe something to practise over the summer holidays?

There are 8 other classes in the cookery section, and 9 other sections that villagers or visitors can enter.

These are set out in The Schedule, copies of which can be picked up in the village – the Barbour Institute and the Post Office for starters. Or it can be viewed/downloaded/printed online by CLICKING HERE. Get one, peruse the contents, and you have almost three weeks to get your entries ready.

Gardening and flowers are the Gardening Society host's favourites but you are not obliged to have green fingers. You may prefer to enter crafts or photos, or to arrange flowers. There are "real" judges but the public will vote on one of the flower arranging challenges. We want humorous arrangements to depict a song title. These should not take up more than 24 inches (60 cm) width or breadth, and you need to display the song title on a card, but other than that there are no technical rules. A GSOH is what's needed, plus flowers and props.
And we have a section for children, split into "7 and under" and "8 to 11", allowing assorted creative strengths to be shown.

The Schedule lists all the categories you can enter, plus gives some strong hints and rules where needed. We don't prohibit things like soggy bottoms but there is no sense in losing points by ignoring jam jar rules!

Entries and entry forms, ideally already filled in (they should be in the schedules), are welcome from 9.30- 11.30am on the 3rd. Judging takes place after. this and the doors will be open to all, to gawp in wonderment and gasp in delight, from 2.30pm to just after 4.00pm, when prizes will be awarded and the raffle will be drawn.

Come along, try the teas and cakes (not the entries though) and take a bag along to make the most of what Tattenhall Village Market will have on sale.

And finally, if you won a section in last year's show, please make sure you return your trophy before the day.
