Many local residents will have seen this building on the left of Burwardsley Road as you climb the hill towards Burwardsley Post Office. But, what is it?

If you like the idea of camping but want to shelter under something more substantial than canvas, then the 'Old Smithy' camping barn or 'stone-tent' might be the perfect solution. For walkers, cyclists and others visiting this part of Cheshire, the 'Old Smithy' is ideally located mid-way along the Sandstone Trail and is close to local visitor attractions. It is roomy and dry so there is absolutely no need to carry a tent.

What is on offer?
* sufficient space for 8 adults to roll out their sleeping bags on a raised decked platform
* a solid wooden table and benches in the communal area.
* space for food preparation
* running cold water and a toilet (there is no electricity or hot water).

If you are hiking or cycling along the Sandstone Trail then all you need is your own sleeping bag and roll mat, together with food, a cooker, matches and some warm clothing. Lighting is by lanterns (provided) but you will need a torch. Bikes can be stored within the building overnight.

The 'Old Smithy' is located at Grid reference: 513 569 OS Landranger No.117

There is a small charge per person per night and for convenience you can buy a good selection of local produce or pre-book your own food parcels at the village Post Office, Burwardsley (literally on your doorstep). There is also a delightful 'Brocante Corner' within this idyllic rural Post Office. Burwardsley, just like its near neighbour Tattenhall, is a Sandstone Ridge Village. So, for all you walkers and cyclists visiting Tattenhall, Burwardsley, the Sandstone Trail and our surrounding district this might well be a solution and tremendous fun!
