This member of the Webteam is feeling completely smug in having created a single poppy (yes, just 1) in memory of her Grandfather, Private James Martin, the story of whom we ran earlier this summer CLICK HERE.
Whilst many residents have created multiple poppies (sometimes hundreds), my single poppy is important to me, not only because I have never knitted anything in my entire life (my thanks to Yvonne in teaching me how to cast on and in printing out the very basic pattern for me) but also because it will be included on our 'Wall of Poppies' for the Armistice Centenary Commemorations.
Members of the WI are not only working hard to complete this innovative project (they still need your poppies) but because they will soon be writing up your individual stories as part of our village history.
So, if anyone has made 1 or more poppies and would like to write a short story about their reasons for making them and including the name of the individual to whom they are dedicated, then please send your information to Ruth McPhillips who will record your stories.
Email to ruthmc7@btinternet or deliver to 7 Barnfield, off Covert Rise.
Please keep those poppies coming in (if I can do it, anyone can). ... our image in this article is for illustrative purposes only ... alas my efforts were altogether more rudimentary ...
