Use our Businesses or Risk Losing Them!

The departure of Complement Clothing on our High Street at the end of November is a sanguine reminder to us all that if we fail to use and support our local businesses, then we are in danger of losing them.

This closure will surely remind many of us of the struggle with the Post Office, for example, and the removal of our beloved Post Officer Counter Service from Pluto House across the road to SPAR to a single service counter facility, and then the battle to have the full service reinstated back in Pluto House. This was a truly remarkable outcome, with the entire village pulling together.

That said, Lesley Morton offers so much more than just the Post Office Counter Services.

Her gift shop is an Aladdin's Cave, stocking the most distinctive selection of quality cards, wrappings, gift bags, fine tissue papers, ribbons and stationery. Her selection of occasion cards is astonishing in a village of our size with Lesley stocking the imaginative and beautiful designs of 'Caroline Gardner', one of the UK's leading designers, and those of 'Woodmansterne', who aim to reflect British culture and taste whether through the magic of Quentin Blake's illustrations, the beauty of the National Trust images or the humour of Punch cartoons. There is also a section devoted to 'Alex Clark', the animal images being really popular with the youngsters in the village and with animal lovers generally.

With Christmas just around the corner, there is also every type of wrapping paper you need, beautiful cards, stocking fillers, strings and ribbons and the Christmas Stamps are in store too .... it's all there!!

So, think local, shop locally .... if we fail to use our local services, then we may be in danger of losing them.
