On Saturday 16 March (and thankfully before yet more heavy rain set in), local Cubs and Beavers from the 1st Sandstone Scout Group (a group which includes lots of youngsters from Tattenhall, Bickerton Bickley, Cholmondeley and surrounding areas), joined forces with Tattenhall Wildlife Group (TWiG) for the planting of 100 trees at the Flacca Wetland ....

Armed with spades of all sizes and wet weather gear to match, the Cubs and Beavers were given a few helpful facts on the importance of planting trees in that area, and then proceeded to tackle the mud, glorious mud, in the planting of a mixture of Hazels and Alder Buckthorn – community engagement at its very best.

This is the second environmental conservation and community event for this particular Cub and Beaver Group – they were busy in this locality just two years ago; the trees planted in 2017 are now very well established.

  • Beavers were working towards their 'My World Challenge Award'
  • Cubs were working towards their Chief Scout's Silver Award and Beavers towards their Chief Scout's Bronze Award

The current project was kindly funded by Tattenhall Parish Council, TWiG having been one of the successful beneficiaries in the recent Funding Application Round.

Our thanks too, to Alison (at Alison's Kitchen) who baked trays of millionaire's shortbread and provided much needed hot chocolate for our weary eco warriors! It is worth remembering that the Beavers are as young as 6-7 years of age, whilst the Cubs are aged just 8-9 years – well done to all of you!

All Cubs and Beavers received a Certificate from TWiG.

The 1st Sandstone Scout Group is based at the newly refurbished hut in Bickerton. More information is available on their website CLICK HERE.

Our thanks to parents who turned up in great numbers and in support of this local project.
