Thursday Weather Warning – Strong Winds
24-hour weather warning issued for Cheshire
A 'yellow' warning is expected to become active from 12am on Thursday, 21st December 2023
Strong winds are set to batter the county according to Met Office forecasters, who warn gusts may affect a wide area of the country on Thursday.
The warning will come into force around 12am on December 21, lasting until around midnight. The warning advises that there is a 'small chance' of travel disruption.
Also possible is a 'slight chance' of damage to buildings (e.g. tiles blown from roofs.) The Met Office advises people to take steps to protect themselves and their property, including checking for loose items outside the home and securing bins, plant pots, trampolines and garden furniture, wherever possible.
Residents are also informed to expect the following:
- a small chance of longer journey times or cancellations as travel services are affected.
- a slight chance of some damage to buildings
- possible power cuts, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
- a small chance of injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
- some roads and bridges could close for a period if winds get very strong
