We are all aware of Thom Morton's unrelenting support for this village.

He has been a staunch advocate in supporting a multiplicity of Tattenhall groups, societies and events over a number of years.

Most recently Thom Morton has financially supported:

  • The Armistice Centenary Events
  • The Tattenhall Playground Initiative
  • The Tattenhall Beer Festival
  • The continuing work of Tattenhall Wildlife Group (TWiG)
  • The Croquet Club

As a fitting conclusion to the historical projects which have been undertaken in relation to the upcoming Armistice Centenary Commemorations, SPAR Tattenhall has just announced that it will sponsor the Tattenhall Local History Website, rounding off the Armistice Centenary Commemorations to be held in November.

Unbeknown to most of us, Thom Morton is a keen historian and is very focused on enrichment through local history ... he said '... It is an absolute pleasure to contribute to our lovely village and to the Local History Website which strives to raise awareness locally and to archive all of our historical material in one place. I have been privileged to have a preview of what they have also produced for the Armistice Commemorations – it is remarkable and a wonderful historical legacy for our village and for Burwardsley too ...'

The Tattenhall Local History Website was launched in 2012 and relied on initial funding support from our Ward Councillor and Parish Council and, most recently, Gifford Lea who are the current sponsors of the site. SPAR Tattenhall will take over from Gifford Lea and sustain the domain costs and associated expenses for at least the next 2 years.

The core principles of the Local History Website are dedicated to celebrating and sustaining the local history of our beautiful Cheshire village:

  • providing a lasting legacy, committed to promoting and showcasing the heritage of Tattenhall and its immediate locality
  • providing a platform for raising awareness and curiosity about our local heritage through the collection and preservation of archival material

Terri Hull who manages the site said '... I am absolutely delighted to receive this commitment on behalf of the Tattenhall Local History Website thereby ensuring the future of this fantastic community asset ...'.
