For some years now, any very heavy rainfall has caused flooding at the junction of Park Avenue and Tattenhall Road. The Parish Council has had a number of complaints about this in the past and has raised the issue with CWaC many times.

The recent downpours have highlighted the problem yet again and the Parish Council wrote to CWaC to ask what plans there were to resolve it. The following answer has been received from an officer at the Borough Council:

"There is a highway drain along Park Avenue that then runs along Tattenhall Road and it crosses to the footway on the opposite side.
A previous job set up to repair the section of the highway carrier drain found power cables near the pipe and our Term Contractor was not able to complete the work.  We are looking at other options as it is likely the power cables will be near the pipe for the majority of the length.
Another issue is that subject to the water level at the brook (EA – Main River) the highway drain discharges directly to the brook.  If the water level is high the pipe surcharges and we get ponding and we will need to look at the levels of any new drainage system.
I have asked that a drainage scheme is designed to resolve this issue, with the cost of the works being approximately £80,000."

The Parish Council will keep in contact with Highways to ensure that this work is carried out.
