Founded in 2016, Tattenhall Chess Club has just celebrated a wonderful first season. Unlike some other clubs, all the Tattenhall club members play at the level of social or average players (according to the classifications in chess books). There is no one with a grading reaching the official category "club player".
Despite this, the club has achieved a respectable performance this year! It was able to field teams for every one of the scheduled matches, playing 100 matches between September 2016 and April 2017 in Division 4 of the Wirral Chess League and in Division 3 of the Chester & District Chess League.
Of these matches, the final outcome was remarkable: 38 victories, 10 draws and 52 defeats.
Tattenhall's Club Secretary, Klaus Tekniepe, is delighted with this result: "This is better than we could have hoped for or expected and we are all very pleased." Klaus continues "But even more important is the development of the social aspect of the club.
We have had many very enjoyable evenings of social chess. Up to 18 people have met weekly to play this wonderful game within a friendly club atmosphere."
The club is grateful to Paul and Diane Gregson who have kindly hosted the players at Carriages in Gatesheath for this past season. Regrettably the chess club can't use this venue for next season's League matches. A new one has to be found. – For further information please contact Klaus at tekniepe@wortzuwort.de or on 01829 771698.
