The Tattenhall Annual Show, was held on Sunday 1st September, possibly the 134th show since its beginnings in 1885! But records are a bit sparse to prove that! However this is an historical event in our village!

Thanks to everyone who helped and supported this occasion. The involvement of so many helpers is fundamental to the success of the show, and making it a real community event which includes children and all the way up to the older generation. Derek Jones one of the judges is 88! and Jim Harris one of the main competitors is 85!

Tea and cake were provided by the able support of the WI. They have always supported and been involved in the organisation of the Show.

The day began with the dog eating my cake which I had made to enter into the cookery section, more fool me for putting the crate of my exhibits on the ground outside my door! Where else would the dog look for goodies to eat?! He clearly had good taste as it was a healthy courgette and lemon cake.

So that did not seem to be a very good start to my day.
However, the day got better – there were no more glitches and the day worked very well, and everyone seemed to have a great time, especially those who won prizes!

Hundreds of items, grown and made by people- were on show – veg, flowers, baking, crafts art, photography and special children classes. There were 66 exhibitors and 415 entries.

Best exhibit in show:  Jannie Hollins for a vase of mixed garden flowers.

Highest points in show:  Jim Harris – who has been a stalwart supporter of the show still growing amazing veg and flowers. At the age of 85 he has been showing at this little show for 60 years, and still won the major prize! He says growing and showing gave him purpose to his life, and he has no intention of giving up any time soon.

2nd highest points in show: Beth Manson – the youngest winner of this cup, being in the childrens 8-11 group. She entered so many things in the Childrens' section, she wiped the board with prizes! Will she follow in Jim's footsteps and continue to show tor another 60 years?
