Research into the history of the show, has unearthed articles in the Chester Observer-the first show was in August 1885. The show at that time was The Tattenhall Poultry show. Mr George Barbour of Bolesworth Castle, was the president. Many well known names of ancestors of current Tattenhall residents featured. Mr Dutton won a first prize.

By 1930 it had become the Tattenhall Show, and had sections for Cheese, a Gymkhana, ( see photograph) as well as a Tattenhall Show Queen. They had sections for animals and pets, farm collie featured as did a number of mice entered in the pet section, The president of the Show at the time, Mrs Carter, was reported as commenting that perhaps they should have put the mice in with the cheese, then there would have been no feeding difficulties!

In1945 the Show was able to make a donation to the Tattenhall Welcome Home and Remembrance fund.

The Tattenhall Show has clearly gone through a large number of changes over it's lifetime. It is clearly not such a grand affair, no animals are involved, but photography, art, crafts and cooking have all added to the programme.

Schedules are now available from the Barbour Institute and the Post Office.
A printable online version will be available shortly from this website.

Meanwhile collect your schedule and start planning what you might enter, what else are you going do now the rain has set in?!
