The Council's Libraries Service is looking for young people aged 13 years and over to help out with this year'sSummer Reading Challenge

The role will give young people a chance to gain experience of working with the public and will suit someone who is interested in libraries and reading. Volunteers will also promote reading and library usage to young people at other times of the year. It's particularly helpful for young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Cheshire West and Chester Council's Cabinet Member for a Fairer Future, Councillor Lisa Denson said:

Volunteering is a great way for young people to gain real experience, get more confidence and develop their skills.

Volunteers should enjoy books and reading, have a friendly and approachable manner and be good at talking to and listening to others, especially children.

The role includes promoting the challenge and registering children, encouraging children to talk about the books they have read, helping them to choose more books recording progress and handing out rewards. Volunteers will also help with activities, promotional events and craft sessions. Please get involved and play your part this summer'

Cllr Denson

The Summer Reading Challenge volunteering runs from July to the end of August each year. You can apply by filling in the expression of interest form availablehere
