Tree planting in the new Community Orchard.

On Thursday morning 44 apple, pear, plum, quince and nut trees were planted by 35 volunteers and CWAC workers, in a little plot of land owned by CWAC between Gorsefield and Gifford Lea. This little orchard will be included in the "Plant a tree for the Jubilee, " Queens Green Canopy plans to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

It was funded by CWAC and they provided workers to help and facilitate the planting. All the trees came from a local plant nursery.

The numbers of volunteers who came to help plant the trees, meant that they were all planted in just over an hour. Families came with their children, knowing that they could watch the tree they planted grow and produce fruit and even eat that fruit.

Volunteers will be needed to maintain the orchard and pruning workshops will be organised later in the year when it is time to do the pruning. It is hoped that a path will link Gifford Lea to the Orchard.

This was a joint project between CWAC, and the Parish Council .
The weather and refreshments from Alison's cafe made it a very social occasion.
