This week, as part of TWiG's Woodland Management Plan, Paul Hellmers of PJH Outdoor Solutions, will be coppicing hazels in Jubilee Wood. We have used Paul previously, to cut Glebe Meadow and Barn Field.
From Monday, therefore, we would ask you to stay alert and take care if you are out walking through Jubilee Wood since Paul will be at work in that area.
When the hazels were planted in 2012, it was always intended to coppice them when they had matured. This is sustainable woodland management at its very best and has been highly successful.
The coppiced hazel will let light into the Jubilee Wood, increase woodland plant biodiversity, and allow the hazels to continue to flourish for coppicing in the future.
The hazels being coppiced this coming week have been ordered by, amongst others, Chester Zoo for use as perches in their aviary.
Thank you for your co-operation. Tattenhall Wildlife Group (TWiG)
