Spring Equinox

The Spring Equinox this year falls on 20 March.

Following the various 'Beasts from the East', not too soon you shout!

So what is the Spring Equinox, other than a key stage in the astronomical cycle of the earth.

I think we will all be satisfied with the following explanation i.e. '... The occasion when night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours – which literally means 'equal night' in Latin (equi – equal, and nox – night) ...'.

In reality, equinoxes do not have exactly 12 hours of daylight but for us, let's enjoy the official start of Spring and (hopefully) warmer weather.
