The first concert of 2018 in St Alban's Church was performed by Chameleon, five exceptionally gifted musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music. This was a "first" for TMS in that the concert featured Chameleon's ability to perform on multiple instruments, often within the same piece.
The line-up consisted of Anna Murphy (flute), George Strickland (oboe), Jessica Tomlinson (clarinet), Hannah Corcoran (saxophone) and Eleanor Mills (bassoon), although each played at least two other instruments if not three! As there is no existing repertoire for Chameleon they have to do their own arrangements.
The programme ranged from traditional folk tunes, works by Fitkin, Stravinsky, Debussy, Britten, Ibert, Runchak, along with Bernstein's West Side Story and Gershwin's An American in Paris. The audience was spellbound by the raw, precocious talent on display and would certainly like to see Chameleon again in the future.
The next concert is on Sunday 11 February 2018 in St Alban's Church when we will be welcoming back the internationally renowned concert pianist Steven Osborne.
Tickets £8 for TMS members, £10 for non-members.
