Threads Through the Bible is a carefully stitched artwork, consisting of 44 silk panels, stretching 80 meters in length (when put side by side), that has taken ten years to complete. It is the largest textile project by a single artist ever, but also the largest textile project for 600 years.
And the premiereof this amazing and remarkable exhibition is just 45 minutes away – so arrange a visit before it moves off to other cathedrals and venues further away.
The exhibition is free, as is entrance to the cathedral (but donations welcome), and as well as engaging and immersing yourself in the exhibition – marvelling at the intricate stitching, the huge palette of striking colours, and the skilful techniques used by the artist – there's the chance to experience the wonder and beauty of the magnificent Cathedral itself.
Threads Through the Bible – although covering the themes of Creation, the Cross and Revelation – is certainly not just for the religious: The sheer scale of the work, and the fascinating imagination and interpretation of the different panels is compelling and moving, whatever background and lifestyle a person might have.
The Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Rev Dr Sue Jones said:
"It is wonderful to welcome the exhibition Threads Through the Bible to Liverpool Cathedral. Jacqui Parkinson creatively re-tells many of our Bible stories through textile, a very different medium to stained glass, which historically told Bible stories.
Each panel tells a story of love, hope, redemption and grace – ........ and we invite you to gaze upon the wonder of this work of art and the enduring story it tells."
Take account of the opportunity and arrange to visit – you will not be disappointed.
