Shirley represents Team GB in Switzerland – Inspiration of the Highest Order!

The team at Gifford Lea with whom the Webteam are regularly in contact, Shirley, Irene and Lisa, are delightful.

Whilst this member of the Webteam realised that Shirley Anderson, a Village Advisor at Inspired Gifford Lea, was a seasoned runner, I don't think I had realised the seriousness of her intent or commitment.

Inspiration of the highest order you shout!

Earlier this month, Shirley (sponsored by parent company, Inspired Villages Group) competed in the World Championship Long Distance Duathlon as part of Team GB which was held in Zofingen, Switzerland. Inspired's sponsorship included support with travel and accommodation, entry fees and the all important kit.

As part of Great Britain's 45-49 age group team, Shirley impressively finished the Duathlon in 9 hours, 16 minutes and 37 seconds and she was placed 6th in her age group.

Her pedigree goes before her ... having taken part in the European Duathlon Championships in Spain in 2017, Shirley went on to win 1st and 2nd place in her following two competitions, winning her a place in the ITU Powerman Long Distance Duathlon World Championships.

As an age group athlete representing Team GB, Shirley was racing alongside an array of elite athletes, with only two others representing Team GB in her age group, as well as competitors from Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and USA. The gruelling race included a six-mile run, 96-mile bike ride, followed by a further 18 mile run.
