As Wimbledon begins TODAY, tennis players in Tattenhall are setting up for their own 'smashing matches' after securing new equipment, courtesy of Redrow Homes.

The housebuilder has donated £280 to Tattenhall Tennis Club which has put the monies towards the purchase of benches and a new gazebo for spectator use.

The donation forms part of Redrow's Tattenhall Community Fund of £5,000 that the housebuilder set up last year to provide support to local causes and groups close to its Meadow Brook development in Tattenhall. Ten community groups were chosen to receive funding, including the tennis club.

It was Jane Roberts and Helen Rideal, the club's secretary and treasurer, who applied to the fund. Helen said: 'We are a small, self-funded organisation which provides an active tennis calendar for all ages, including mini and junior clubs as well as coaching'

'After resurfacing our two courts we had drained our financial resources and were in desperate need of new equipment such as the benches, ideal for parents watching their children play, and the gazebo, which we like to use during our tournaments and social events throughout the year. We're really grateful to Redrow for the donation, which has made a real difference to the club.'

Jason Newton, sales director for Redrow Homes (NW), added: 'We're particularly proud of all the work we're doing in Tattenhall and helping out the local tennis club was a real privilege as it serves so many people locally and helps to keep its members fit and socialising – an ethos which marries perfectly with our own aim of creating thriving and healthy communities'.

There are only a few 'ace' homes now remaining at Meadow Brook. For more information CLICK HERE
