Quite how we tackle the volume of litter that is strewn around our village remains a dilemma. Whilst I litter pick at least twice a week with a friend, the reliance on volunteers alone is unsustainable; something which has been raised with the Parish Council.
On Monday and Wednesday of this week two entire bin bags of litter were collected between 8.45-9.00am.
In particular, the 'Park Play Area' has been covered with sweet wrappers, and discarded drinks/food containers. Today, it was as if we were walking the steps of a child (or adult) who had a passion for an 'Opal Fruit' style sweet and had simply left an entire trail of wrappers (akin to a treasure hunt)!
Not only were multiple Covid masks collected but on 'Chester Road', it would appear that a car had pulled up, parked and simply emptied the contents of their vehicle into the gutter; including a soiled nappy! Two bags of dog poo were also simply dumped on the grass verges.
The 'Pod', cleared on Monday, was again strewn with debris this morning (Wednesday) – cans, wrappers, bottles. One of the Welly signs in this area has also been broken in half which we have propped up in the hedge and the other Welly sign was simply thrown on the grass (having re-positioned it earlier in the week).
The only cure for litter is 'us' ... the message is simple ...
