An Older People's Fair hosted by the local Member of Parliament, Aphra Brandreth, has been hailed as a success after constituents local to Tattenhall, the surrounding villages, and from further afield attended the event.

The event took place on Friday 1st November at the Barbour Institute in Tattenhall and welcomed over 20 organisations including Cheshire East Council and Cheshire West and Chester Council, AGE UK, Sanctuary Housing, the Rotary Club, and many more, with local people approaching their later years having the opportunity to access key advice and support.

The event offered older residents a chance to connect with a broad range of services and programmes tailored to their interests. Some just went along for a cup of tea and a chat with their local MP. Attendees explored options for community involvement, health and wellness resources, support services, and social activities, all in a positive and welcoming environment.

One of the attendees at the event was Older People Active Lives (OPAL), who run weekly day clubs for older people aged 70 and over to enjoy the companionship of others. The Tattenhall club is re-convening in January. Commenting on the success of the Older People's Fair, Geoff Hope-Terry, Chair of OPAL services said: OPAL was very pleased to be invited to this important event. I enjoyed meeting lots of residents and telling them about our range of services, which are designed to help older people and carers in rural areas like Tattenhall. It was also good to compare notes with the other sector bodies who were there, to ensure that we work in a joined-up way, for maximum benefit.

Aphra Brandreth MP expressed her gratitude to everyone who attended and supported the event, stating, "I was thrilled with the turnout and the energy at my Older People's Fair. It's fantastic to see so many residents engaging with organisations that truly make a difference in our local community. Older people often know that many of these wonderful services are out there, but it's so important to get everyone together in the room to offer that face-to-face encouragement, engagement, and support. Events like these help ensure that older residents know they are valued and supported, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact of today's connections. Thank you again to everyone who came along.
