TWiG has been busy again and new stock-proof fencing has been installed around Glebe Meadow, fully funded by the Parish Council.

Only last week, 'A' Level Students from The Queen's School Chester undertook a site visit to Glebe Meadow, an area of 'unimproved grassland', as part of their studies.

Moreover, one of our local residents will be making use of the Meadow as part of her MSc Studies with specific reference to butterflies and bumblebees.

Glebe Meadow and Barn Field comprise 'unimproved grassland' – extremely rare in Cheshire and lowland Britain. They have never been subjected to intensive agriculture and, as a consequence, contain a flora and fauna of great diversity. Glebe Meadow, in particular, contains twenty three different species of grass and up to twenty species of wildflower. Last summer the annual butterfly count revealed that the grassland in Glebe Meadow provided suitable habitat for a significant number of small skipper butterflies – another uncommon species in Cheshire.
