Christmas Lanterns event at Chester Zoo: New additions – 'World first' 3D mammoth.

Chester Zoo's ChristmasLanterns and Light event has always been popular, and 2023 sees a raft of new additions – including the 'world first' giant 3D mammoth hologram and a magical walkway of gigantic lit-up animals, including illuminated dolphins emerging from waterways

Other features:

  • ultraviolet walkway with luminous animal faces€
  • colour-changing rainforests
  • fire garden
  • fairground rides
  • Christmas market stalls
  • special characters (including Father Christmas himself)

All funds raised from ticket sales will support the zoo's conservation efforts to protect highly threatened species.

Tickets are said to be selling fastfor 33 special evenings, starting from Friday, November 17th until Sunday, December 31st.

Organisers say it will combine elements from the 128 acre-zoo's long-running wintertime event,s,The Lanternswhich has been a seasonal staple at the zoo for the past 12 years, along with the host of "extraordinary" new features as referred to above.

This year the zoo has teamed up with music giants Sony Music/RGL and Culture Creative, the team behind popular worldwide events such as Christmas at Kew Gardens and numerous other seasonal light trails that attract in excess of ten million visitors.

Taking centre stage will be the giant, four-metre-tall, interactive 3D woolly mammoth hologram which will be appearing at the zoo in a world first.

"Importantly, Lanterns and Light is not only a fabulous way for people to make incredible memories while getting into the spirit of Christmas – it helps our charity zoo continue to ensure some of the world's most threatened species survive and thrive for generations to come." Says Gemma Wright, Senior Admissions and Membership Manager
