Lucky escape

On Wednesday morning the police were called to an accident on the Chester Road between Gatesheath and the junction with the A41 where an Alfa Romeo had hit a telegraph pole, veered off the road and brought down a power line.

The road was closed for four and a half hours whilst the site was made safe.

The female occupant was fortunate to suffer only minor hand and leg injuries and didn't need to go to hospital.
