Thousands of people from around the UK took part in the #TwoPointSixChallenge on 26 April, to replace the usual annual fundraising efforts generated by the London Marathon, the world's biggest annual one-day fundraising event.
Lynn Hedgecoe, from Beeston in Cheshire, did 26 laps around the six acre field opposite her house in 26 different outfits to raise money for heart screening charity Vital Signs Foundation.
A trustee of the charity, Lynn lives with a serious heart condition herself and is currently self-isolating at home with her family having been diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy 13 years ago.
Lynn says of the challenge: "I'm one of the luckiest ladies! Thirteen years ago, when I was first diagnosed with Cardiomyopathy and told my heart was only functioning at 19 percent, I wouldn't have thought I'd still be here in 2020, let alone able to enter into this national challenge. My aim is to walk round the six-acre field opposite our house 26 times in 26 different outfits! No way could I have run a marathon, but I can give this 2.6 challenge my best shot and hopefully provide a bit of fun at the same time!"
Lynn's goal was to raise £1,000 via Just Giving.com//fundraising/lynn-hedgecoe
Some of the money raised will be used to hold a heart screening free for 100 young people aged between 16 – 35 and also provide Cholesterol and diabetes and BP checks for people at 16 upwards. Date and venue obviously to be agreed!
Lynn informs us that this story is now going viral having hit the USA and South Africa!
