The Biennial Ken Griffin Flute Prize was held on Sunday, June 18th at 6.30pm in the Parish Church of St. Alban's.

The eight finalists, aged between 18 and 24 and all studying at the Royal Northern College of Music took part. Senior section leaders from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Manchester Hallé Orchestra were part of the judging panel.

The individual performances were outstanding and all competitors were superbly "turned out" for the occasion. The winner was Hugues Roberts who hails from Christchurch, New Zealand (pictured far right, wearing a bow tie) and is currently a postgraduate student at the RNCM after graduating in 2016 at the Royal Academy of Music. Hugues also won the audience vote, (the first time that the esteemed judges agreed with the audience !!!!!).

There were three runners up: Lily Caunt from Scotland, Meera Maharaj from Warrington and Anna Murphy from Belgium ... a very international group of competitors.

After the award of the prizes the audience was entertained by the Flute Choir from the RNCM, made up of all the semi-finalists and finalists. They played a beautiful arrangement from the Sound of Music. What a wonderful conclusion to the evening.

Thanks must go to Laura Jellicoe, co-founder of TMS, for all the hard work she undertook to bring the competition to Tattenhall.
