Jubilee Wood, which celebrates its 10th birthday in 2022, is now an established area of woodland in the village.
The initiative, led by Tattenhall Wildlife Group, saw the planting of 1200 trees in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty the Queen back in 2012.
The trees were donated by the Woodland Trust, the Bolesworth Estate and Cheshire West and Chester Council and planting took place over a number of weekends.
The wood also provides a haven for wildlife.
Regrettably, all too frequently in the last few months, the wood has also provided an area for some individuals to leave a trail of debris and litter.
Members of TWiG have again had to clear the site of discarded litter in the last few days – a red tent (virtually new but simply used and discarded); instruction leaflets regarding a portable grill, and empty food containers ranging from bacon wrappers, foil trays, polystyrene and snack food containers (click on images to enlarge). There are also multiple glass, plastic and aluminium drinks containers scattered throughout the area.
As we begin 2022, might we remind everyone that there is no excuse for leaving your debris behind or having scant regard for the countryside code. Love where you live.
