If (like me) you were at the last joint TWiG & Gardening Society event in January 2017, then you will know that it was simply fantastic!
At that time, Dr Mark Spencer impressed us with his persuasive and communicate powers. He steered us in a seamless transition through a voyage of sheer discovery with his lecture on 'Plant Hunting and the Plant Hunters of the 17th and 18th Centuries'. The Barbour Institute was packed to capacity.
The guest speaker at this year's joint event, is Dr Hilary Ash, 'Botanist and Cheshire Woman of the Year for 2017'. Our image shows Dr Ash at Eaton Hall following the announcement together with (left to right) Sylvia Cheater MBE (Chair of the Cheshire Woman Award Society), Dr Hilary Ash (Cheshire Woman of the Year 2017), The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of the City of Chester Cllr Angela Claydon and Lord Mayor of Chester's Consort, Maureen McVitty
Dr Ash, professionally a botanist, has been involved in nature conservation for over 30 years.
She has also played a significant role in running the New Ferry Butterfly Park for the past 25 years, a passion which she has chosen to share with us.
With community, nature conservation and environment close to her heart, this is a not-to-be-missed event.
Her talk is intriguingly entitled 'New Ferry Butterfly Park: Brick-pits to Pollinators'.
Join us on Wednesday 10 January 2018 at 7.30pm in the Barbour Institute.
Non-members welcome – £3 at the door.
