Gardener Required at Bolesworth Estate

Job title: Gardener
Salary: Dependant on experience
Reports to: Head Gardener & Park Manager
Overall Purpose of the Job: Assist and support to the Head Gardener & Park Manager in managing the maintenance of the Estate Garden comprising of a formal terraced garden with lawns, mixed borders, rosebeds, shrubberies, and a woodland walk under development. The role will include a range of general garden maintenance; mulching, pruning, leaf clearing, weeding, planting and maintenance of trees, lawn care and herbaceous borders.

Specific Responsibilities:
*Working both on your own and as part of a team, you will be required to carry out a wide variety of duties in all weather conditions.
*Assist with the undertaking of a programme of general garden maintenance.
* Operate and maintain garden machinery (mowers and strimmers).
* Woodland and tree management to include pruning, labelling and plant programming.
* Manage the Rock Garden and herbaceous borders (perennials).
* Care of lawns and gardens including moss, weed and pest control.
* Planting of bulbs, seeds, and propagation.
* Maintain hedges and topiary.
* Composting.
* Assist with the care of car parks and drives to include leaf sweeping and ensuring drains are not blocked.
* Estate work is varied, and some flexibility is needed, and occasional 'other' duties may be required e.g., helping with estate events, walking resident dogs, assisting the housekeeping team, cutting flowers for the house.

Experience required to do the job
* Applicants must have good all-round gardening skills, be physically fit and comfortable working alone at times.
* Minimum RHS Level 2 qualification in Horticulture or working towards it.
* Competency in garden machinery, equipment use and maintenance.
* Chainsaw licence and spraying certificates are desirable.
* Full UK Driving Licence

Employment contract:
* 40 hours per week Monday to Friday inclusive, with an unpaid hour for lunch.
* Due to the nature of this role core hours are seasonal and determined by your Line Manager.
* The post holder will undergo a three-month trial period,
* Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year (pro-rata), plus Public Holidays.
* A basic healthcare plan and employers auto enrolment pension scheme are offered after successful completion of the probationary period.
