The Tattenhall WI is a vibrant organisation with at least 2 events this week! (see below)

  • 1. Wednesday 17 January, for example, at 7.30pm in the Barbour Institute we are hosting a fascinating talk by a Chelsea Pensioner. Viewed by many with affection, a Chelsea Pensioner, or In-Pensioner, is a resident at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, a retirement home and nursing home for former members of the British Army.
  • 2. Friday 19 January – we are hosting a Quiz Night with some fantastic prizes (also in the Barbour Institute) at 7.30pm. This is a fun social evening which includes a two course supper and a glass of wine (or soft drink) – all for £10 per head. A few remaining tickets are available from Elaine on 771059 or Carol on 770861.

The Women's Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to revitalise rural communities and to encourage women to become more involved in producing food during the First World War.

Since then the organisation's aims have broadened and the WI is now the largest voluntary women's organisation in the UK.

The WI celebrated its centenary in 2015 and currently has almost 220,000 members in approximately 6,300 WIs.

The WI plays a unique role in providing women with varied opportunities, the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their local communities.

You might know, for example, that our own WI was at the forefront of having the Post Office counter service re-instated in Pluto House.

We look forward to seeing you.
