In Celebration of an Emerging Woodland

This summer, Tattenhall Wildlife Group (TWiG) celebrates the 10th anniversary of Jubilee Wood.

The Wood, located on private land but which allows permissive access, is an emerging and maturing woodland which is managed and developed by TWiG.

Jubilee Wood is a remarkable achievement, since there is only 13% of woodland cover in the UK and within Cheshire, less than 5%! The only place which exceeds that is on the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge, which mirrors the national picture.

This year, the first orchids have appeared and the woodland glades have been in full bloom.

It is a magical place, providing calm and tranquillity for those who wish to connect with the environment.

TWiG, together with the landowner, supports permissive access but access which does not override the long-term management plan which develops and safeguards the newly emerging habitats.

Members of TWiG have walked the permissive access areas 4 times in the last couple of weeks. They were variously accompanied by representatives from Bolesworth Estate, Transition Tattenhall and the Audlem Wildlife and Ecology Group. On Saturday 2 July, a further volunteer walked the entire area and photographed a sequence of images of the permissive access areas (click on each image to enlarge).

TWiG will be holding a public information session later in the summer to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Jubilee Wood and the work undertaken by our volunteers.
