Red-Letter Day for Tattenhall Cricket !

Both the 1st and 2nd XIs not only recorded memorable wins over the Bank Holiday weekend, but each team saw a century from one of its opening batsmen. Brett Taylor for the Firsts and Ben Cooke for the Seconds! Read on for the full reports:

1st XI:
Saturday brought a visit from local rivals Oakmere. Stand-in skipper Roy duly lost the toss on a roasting hot day and was asked to field first! The early overs from our non-ageing Brock (12-33-1) showed it was going to be a tough wicket to take wickets.

He was well supported at the other end by our other non-ageing bowler Dobson (15-50-1) getting his wicket caught in the deep by Okell. Another mammoth spell!

Having lost so few wickets, and the opener carry his bat for 131, the last few overs were always going to be tough. 216/4 was a good score.

Our reply brought a new opening partner for our overseas Brett Taylor in Ryan Spann (40). They batted superbly putting on a massive 127 for the first wicket, in quick time too! Unfortunately the long wait and heat got to Sadler. 127/2 brought in form Evans (4) to the crease and a few attempted blows missed before skying one to cover. 145/3 brought in Okell (1) who did hit his first run of the year but that was all. Mobbs (1) was next to have a go trying to find a new way to get out. 5 wickets lost for 31, and Oakmere had a route back in to the game. Cheshire (8) was next to join ever-present Taylor reaching his first Tattenhall 100 in 90 balls; a supreme knock but he wasn't finished there! A 30-run partnership took us home with Waddelove (13no). Huge applause for Brett Taylor carrying his bat for 146no.

2nd XI:
Oakmere 2nd XI has had a very decent start to the season... scoring big runs and holding their own against the top teams. But no matter... this TCC 2nd XI has no regard for reputations or stats!

Cooke and Sandland opened. A positive start saw Sandland resolutely tackling the evergreen skills of Cushion... whilst Cooke feasted on the barrage of long-hops, wide half volleys and full tosses at the other end. First wicket fell at 64/1 after 16 overs. There then followed further punishment from Cooke ably assisted by Sharpy to push the score to 145/2. Cooke finally fell for a very impressive 107 from 100 balls. An exhibition in opening the batting.

Max Harper picked up from Cooke with some very simple and effective batting. The two Harpers posted a partnership of 101 before Sharpy missed one going big... and Max bottled his much deserved ton ... clean bowled on 99 after losing his head!

A final flourish from Max Ross and Dan and Thil saw us reach 291 for 5 from 48 overs.

The Oakmere opener perhaps surprised us with 10 from the first Thil over. But he was soon removed with a routine catch from Wakker at cover. Wickets fell consistently. The fielding was mostly good.

4-13 for Dan; 2-22 for Geordie; 1 each for Wakker, Thil and Tom

All in all... a massive win! 200+ runs!
