The Christmas countdown has started and the city centre is getting more crowded with shoppers and cars by the day.

This festive season Cheshire West and Chester Council is encouraging visitors to the city centre to give the Park & Ride a try. The service cuts traffic queues by sailing into the city on dedicated bus lanes and passengers can hop off at a variety of cross-city stops.

To help get celebrations off to a good start the services will also be extended on Friday 16 November at 7pm for the Christmas Lights switch on event. The last bus back to the four Park & Ride sites will be around 9pm, rather than 7pm. Check timetables for exact timings.

Families with children coming into the city to enjoy the fun can take advantage of free travel for under 16s, if they are accompanied by an adult.

The Council's Cabinet Member for Environment, Councillor Karen Shore said: "If you're thinking of coming to the Christmas Lights Switch On event on 16 November, please use the Park & Ride. You'll be doing your bit to cut Christmas congestion as queues build during the busy build up to the festive season.

"Every Park & Ride bus has USB charging, free wifi and comfy premium seating. The buses are frequent and have the very latest enviro-clear engines – so you'll be helping to save the planet too. It's just £2 for a return ticket and you can hop on and off all day."
