Following our 'Concern of the Week', HomeWatch has responded by sharing some possible solutions to the dog fouling problem in Tattenhall. Perhaps the only way forward, is simply to embarrass the irresponsible dog owners by now reporting them to CWaC and/or getting involved in the 'Pink Poo Campaign'.

The Law is as follows:
The Cheshire West and Chester Council (Fouling of Land by Dogs)(General) Order 2012 makes it an offence not to remove any faeces deposited by your dog. This removal must be done without delay. The Order applies to all land in the Borough which is open to the air and to which the public are entitled or permitted to have access, whether or not warning signs are displayed.

HomeWatch comments as follows:
' ... In general, the majority of our village dog owners clear up after their dogs as shown by the overflowing dog bins, especially on the Park. However there are always one or two owners that give our responsible dog walkers a bad name.

HomeWatch in the meantime has again distributed dog waste bags and attached them to the dog bins for those that have been caught without one. However all dog owners are strongly requested to have dog waste bags with them at all times. It is requested that the bags on the dog bins be used for emergencies only.

In the coming Parish News, HomeWatch will be requesting that residents highlight 'grot spots' where a minority of dog walkers are selfishly not picking up after their dogs. These will be followed up by a request to note, if seen, the offending owner, the dog, the location and the times, car regisration etc if it applies, or where they live.

Send information online to CWaC (CLICK HERE). It can also be reported on 0300 1238123

On receipt of this information, the Council Officers will warn offenders and issue FINES to those not picking up
after their dog. The offence carries a maximum fine of £1000!

Another initiative is 'The Pink Poo Campaign' which is available through the Council and requires registration of volunteers to assist by marking deposits with dry powder spray and can only be carried out with Council support. The aim of the 'Pink Poo Campaign' is for local communities to highlight exactly how bad the problem of dog fouling is in a particular area and to embarrass irresponsible dog owners by spraying sighted incidents of dog fouling with pink paint. If everyone can see how bad the problem is then dog owners should be encouraged to pick up the poo and not leave it behind in the future. Details relating to the 'Pink Poo Campaign and Toolkit' can be viewed by CLICKING HERE. ..'
