With COP26 on our minds and with so much discussion regarding climate change, it is terrific to see youngsters getting involved at local level.
Four local Year 12 students have joined TWiG (Tattenhall Wildlife Group) and are now undertaking their 12 month volunteering component related to their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
TWiG actively supports individual and collective learning and development opportunities. As we go forward, it is vital that we attract the support and engagement of wider and representative age profiles from our communities.
This last week, the students have succeeded in constructing two 'leaky dams' on the Mill Brook (Phase 1) in support of the ongoing flood defence schemes managed by TWiG.
These dams provided both a logistical and physical challenge and, apart from the satisfaction of completing a task which helps the community, fun was had by all; well, despite getting wet feet and at least one bruised finger! Importantly too, this outcome fits perfectly with current thinking related to COP26 (CLICK ON EACH IMAGE TO ENLARGE).
Fear not, risk assessments were all in place, as were the necessary DBS checks and permissions for the use of any photographs.
Keep watching this space for updates as they work toward their Award designation.
