The Environment Agency have launched a free flood warning service for the Mill Brook in Tattenhall. The area covered is indicated on the map attached.
Flood Warnings tell people about an imminent risk of flooding to their home or business from rivers and the sea, and helps people make informed decisions about how to respond. There are three types of warning – Flood Alert, Flood Warning and Severe Flood Warning. Each warning type is triggered by weather, river or sea conditions which cause flooding.
Householders are encouraged to prepare if they receive a Flood Alert which could mean packing a bag that includes medicines, insurance documents and anything else they wouldn't want to lose if flooding were to take place. A Flood Warning calls on people to act now which means turning off gas, water and electricity and moving family and pets to safety. A Severe Flood Warning means you are in immediate danger and to follow advice from emergency services.
The Area covered includes properties in Old Mill Place and Cookes Court. and also some properties on High Street and Breen Close. Most customers will be automatically registered to our 'opt out' service and should soon receive a letter to introduce this new service.
The accuracy of flood warnings improves over time as we gather more data and get a better understanding of how the river reacts to heavy rainfall. In the short term, as this is a brand-new service, there may be a higher than normal occurrence of false alarms.
