The recent deluge of rain cannot have escaped the notice of Tattenhall residents. With gateways into the village under water and with many services at Chester Railway Station completely cancelled, it would seem that the ground is saturated pretty much everywhere.
During the recent Walk, Talk and Ride Festival held on the Cheshire Sandstone Ridge, Tattenhall residents explored the flow control measures to mitigate flood risk in the centre of the village.
At that time, of course, the weather was dry with no surface water whatsoever.
However, the varying phases of mitigation measures were put to the test just last week when rain hit the north west. Our drone image shows measures upstream from Tattenhall where some 4,500 cubic metres of water are held back by series of bunds and retention ponds – natural flood management successfully put to the test.
