No More Film Nights for the near Future!

Film Night @ the Barbour have decided to have a break for the time being and will not be hosting any films in the near future. This is due to a decline in attendees plus an increase in the Filmbank Media licence fee required to screen the films, which has resulted in a financial loss each season since Covid. The decrease in film production since 2020, the impact of the WGA Strike and the increase of home streaming services is also thought to have had affect.

Records in the office show that Film Night started in 2012 (although it may be earlier), with upwards of 100 films shown. The team have worked hard to keep Film Night as an inclusive and affordable event, always costing only £5. In an attempt to boost attendees, we have tried BYO drinks and snacks, singalongs, old films you might not have seen on a big screen, requested films, family films, alternative films, sequels, NT Live screenings, independent films, all to no avail. Supported by Tattenhall Community Association and the Parish Council, the Film Night was run as a not-for-profit community service, with any profit being used on upgrading equipment/ blackout curtains etc. Sadly, we cannot justify carrying on at this time.

The good news is that at a recent trip to the Picturehouse in Chester (on a £22 ticket!) I saw trailers of 2 films that I wanted to see, so I remain hopeful that come next summer there may be film licences available for titles that at least 25 people in Tattenhall might come along see!
