Raft Race from The Meadows to the Recorder's Steps
The 'Chester Raft Race' is an annual charity event
taking place every July on the River Dee. This year the two charities being supported are:
- North West Air Ambulance
- Young Lives vs Cancer
The rafts race against the clock over an approximate 400 metre course starting just upriver of the Royal Chester Rowing Club, passing under the pedestrian Suspension Bridge to a finish on the north bank of the river by the Recorder's Steps to the Walls and just above the weir.
Although the race is over at this point, the rafts then have to retrace their route back to the launch area on the Meadows (Earl's Eye Meadow). The entrance to the Meadows parking can be found at the gated corner of Lower Park Road, Chester, CH4 7BB and Elizabeth Crescent, Chester CH4 7AZ. Please note that these roads are residential, so please be respectful when passing through.
There's loads going on at the Meadows too:
- Inflatable slide and roundabout
- Ice Cream Truck
- Milkshake Trailer
- Hot Dog Stand
- Dessert Trailer
- Coffee Trailer
- Moble Bar
- Hospitality Tents
